Which is better – A Jeep or a Truck?

There is no right answer to this question that suits all drivers. The answer lies within the person asking the question. Maybe the question should be, “Which is better for you?” Looking at your personal needs and your lifestyle will help you decide which vehicle to choose. With so many mid and full-size trucks on the market, you should narrow down to a few specific trucks and then compare them to the Jeep Wrangler, or Jeep model of your choice. To determine which vehicle is best for you, ask yourself the following questions.

  • How will I use this vehicle? Will you be using it for off-road weekend trips only or will you be driving it on a daily basis? Jeep has certainly worked on improving the driving comfort in its newer models, but you will have to judge for yourself by test driving both it and the truck of your choice.
  • Do I haul lots of stuff? Trucks can typically carry more loads than a Jeep. If you tend to haul stuff on a regular basis or if you are the one your friends call when they need help moving, a truck may be your best bet. The Jeep Wrangler two-door does not have a lot of room for hauling lots of gear. A midsize pickup truck, however, has the ability to carry lots of cargo or tow a relatively large trailer.
  • Do I like the feel of the wind in my hair? Riding with the top or sides off in a Jeep certainly rates with the “coolness factor” but you need to consider the rougher ride you will have with that wind-blown factor as you remove the doors, fold the windshield down, and take the roof off.
  • How much interior space do I need? Typically, you can seat the same amount of people (5) in a mid-size truck and a Jeep. So, if you have a larger family or lots of friends, this is something to consider.

Opinions on which of these vehicles is the best are as varied as the terrain out there to drive. It comes down to your personal needs and style. When you take those two factors into consideration, there really is no wrong answer to this debate. And if you are in the market to buy, be patient and consider the 2020 Jeep Gladiator pickup truck. Based on the Jeep Wrangler, the Gladiator will have a payload capacity of 1,600 pounds so you can possibly get the best of both worlds come 2019.
